Polisher Troubleshooting Guide
Apex Customs
In the event where your polisher stops working, here are a couple of troubleshooting tips that are simple and quick to help you get to the bottom of the issue:
- If you notice that the polisher does not turn on, do check if the power supply is connected and that no damage is visible to the power cord.
- If you notice a burnt smell during use, or sparks emitted on the side of the polisher housing, this is an indication that the carbon brushes are worn and may require replacing. Refer to the section below on how to change the carbon brushes. Note that a spare set of carbon brushes also comes in the polisher box; alternatively you can also purchase them here.
- If the speed of the polisher changes intermittently or if the speed cannot be controlled from the speed dial, this is an indication that the part may be faulty. For this, you will need to contact the team at info@detailstore.com.au for further assistance.
How to replace carbon brushes for Apex Customs polishers?
- For the latest Sensei Pro polisher, refer to the video here.
- For other polishers, use a flat faced screwdriver to remove the cover as illustrated in the image below. This image references the Sensei Plus polisher, but the cover location is also similar on the Karate Kid and Grasshopper polishers.
- The old brushes should come off once the cover is removed as it is spring loaded.
- Insert the new ones in a similar way the old ones were removed, ensuring the carbon brushes are in full contact with the motor.
- Tighten the cap back with the same flat faced screwdriver.
- Restart the machine and there should be no more sparks.
Rupes
The backing plate for my Nano Ibrid Bigfoot Polisher is no longer spinning but I can hear the motor operating?
The two nylon gears in the head can break or strip teeth OR the drive spindle in the "neck" has become detached. Rupes usually say this is caused by putting too much downward pressure on the machine when polishing or it can happen if the pad catches a corner and comes to a complete stop.
